Many of Sheridan’s programs require completion of Essential Communication Skills (COMM 19999) which will help you develop the communication skills necessary for today's workplace.
Admission criteria such as your Grade 12 or postsecondary English score, or the English Language Proficiency score in your application will be used to determine which communication class you will take in the first semester.
An email will be sent to your Sheridan account prior to the start of term to notify you about your placement. Students placed in Communication Foundations (COMM 19997) will be required to complete the Essential Communication Skills (COMM 19999) course in a future semester. This is an additional course and will have an associated cost. Essential Communications Skills (COMM 19999) must be completed in order to graduate.
If you have taken a communication course at another college or university, you can check if you are able to obtain a transfer credit for the Essential Communication Skills course (COMM 19999).
You may challenge your placement in Communication Foundations (COMM 19997) by writing a challenge exam provided there is adequate time to write and assess the exam prior to the start of the term. Please contact Karen Agaton to see if you qualify.
